People who feel discomfort when looking at a particular pattern or design suffer from a condition known as pattern glare. Symptoms of pattern glare are headache, eye-pain, light sensitivity and nausea. Symptoms are caused when the offending patterns over-stimulate the visual cortex of the brain.

Many times, pattern glare develops without any kind of pre-existing health condition but it can also develop if there is a prior history of concussion, epilepsy or dyslexia.

A Pattern Glare Test is administered by an eye care professional to diagnose the condition. The test shows the patient three patterns of different spatial frequency to see if any symptoms present. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, special glasses are made using the best neurological tint to offer the patient relief from the offending pattern.
