Seniors benefit from yearly eye exams

Swedish researchers examined 1,200 adults over the age of 70 who were satisfied with their vision and found that over 60% of the subjects could greatly improve their vision by getting prescription lenses or updating their current prescription.

In addition to finding that the study subjects needed prescription lenses, 27% of the women and 19% of men were found to have cataracts. Other eye conditions that were diagnosed were age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Studies from the National Eye Institute and others have proven the benefit to supporting macular degeneration with eye supplements.

Changes in vision can happen slowly, which makes it hard to notice the subtle changes in eyesight so yearly, dilated eye exams can catch these changes even if they are currently unnoticed.
